Shirley Heights Lookout
Arguably the most famous attraction in Antigua and definitely the best views on the island is Shirley Heights Lookout. This high point offers staggering views of Nelson’s Dockyard, Falmouth Harbour and English Harbour and thus, is sure to add a drop of magnificence to any event, road trip or picnic.
Once a military complex, Shirley Heights served as a lookout and Signal Station where flags and guns were used to communicate with the Fort George and St. John’s military bases. Along with the Signal Station, Shirley Heights was also once home to a guard house, gun battery, quarters and kitchen, a hospital, canteen and cemetery.
Today, Shirley Heights Lookout is the place to visit if you’re looking for a fun time. The old military buildings have been refurbished to function as a restaurant and bar making it a great place to kick back and relax. If you’re looking for a family-friendly activity, there’s a BBQ party on Thursdays from 4 pm to 8 pm.
On Sunday evenings around 4, if the adults are looking for a fun hang out, is when the real party atmosphere comes to life.
